OpenDNS
OpenDNS is not open source software, but it works like one.It is a free DNS service that translates the URLs of Web pages into IP addresses. When you write any address on the web browser ,this address is being converted to a IP address and the conversion is done by the DNS and then the particular website is located and then is opened into
your browser window.
The DNS server address is specified by the Internet service providers(ISP).Now the Question is why we need OpenDNS when we have DNS already? Answer to this Question is that if the DNS of your ISP is slow it will take lots of time to convert your web address,www.google.com to convert into an IP address along with the loading of the whole website. In openDns
servers ,it caches the IP address of various websites so when a user enter the web address entered previously it will not take time to convert into an IP address rather it reply fast.It does not perform the conversion of the web name to an IP address again and again thus increasing the speed.
Many more advantages are there:
1)It blocks phishing websites from loading on your computer.
2)It contains built-in controls to protect against hackers hijacking your brower.
3)Blocking of particular websites on your computer.
4)It provides OpenDNS shortcuts.
How to use it?
1)Open your Network Connections or Router’s settings.
2)Change the default DNS server to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
 and it is now working.
